WATCH: Terrifying moment a dash cam captures THIS risky game of chicken

In recent times there has been a drastic rise in the number of drivers opting to fit their cars with dash cams.

Now, driving footage that would have otherwise slipped under the radar, spreads across the internet.

From everyday footage of strange daily behaviour to dangerous drivers that are named and shamed, dash cams allow viewers at home to be part of the action.

This video is one of the more jaw-dropping moments caught on camera.

In what appears to be a risky game of chicken, one pedestrian can be seen tempting fate in County Durham.

The footage shows are car speeding down a main road in Murton, Country Durham.

In what appears to be very wet and slippery conditions, two pedestrians can be seen standing on the left-hand side of the road just before a crossing.

Suddenly, and without warning, one of the pedestrians wearing a hooded top over her head darts out infront of the car.

Although given little time to respond, the car is able to slow and the pedestrian makes it across the road just in the nick of time.

Thankfully on this occasion, the car does not make contact with the pedestrian and misses them by inches.

It’s unclear whether or not this was a deliberate game of chicken, but the driver of the car believes it to be have been a purposeful move.

The driver of the car, 21-year-old, Tasha Holland reported that she saw the young teenagers laughing at the side of the side.

According to the Chronicle Live, she said: “I was just driving up the main road and noticed that the car in front of me needed to brake as a girl crossed the road just ahead.

“I assumed she had accidentally stepped out and saw her two friends waiting to cross the road at the same and thought they had seen me. Then out of no-where, one of them stepped out into the road right in front of my car.

“She wasn’t actually looking but her friend on the same side of the road definitely was and the girl on the other side of the road seemed to be laughing.

“I can’t say for certain that they were playing chicken but that’s how it seemed to me and you can judge for yourself from the footage.”

Tasha went on to add:” “I was really shaken up and needed to pull the car over in the next street to regain my composure, I found it very upsetting.

“Later on I had to go out driving again and I was really nervous, that sort of thing really affects you.

“Having someone deliberately step out in front of your car as some sort of joke is simply the worst thing that can happen to you as a driver.”

Previous driving footage captured a fatal road incident in Arizona.

The dash cam, filmed inside a self-driving Uber, captured the shocking moment a cyclist was hit by the Uber after the safety stopping features failed to kick in.
